About this Exploration: The Hoisington City Building was originally built in 1900 but was added on in 1939 as part of the Worker Projects Administration (WPA). The WPA was the largest New Deal agency created under President Roosevelt in 1935 employing millions to carry out public works projects including the construction of public buildings. At the top of the Hoisington City Building column is a sun dial that keeps perfect time! The sun dial and city building were commemorated in 1939 as a WPA project. |
