GET HORTONThe City of Horton was called the "Magic City" because it grew so rapidly during the construction of the Rock Island Railroad in 1886. The railroad shops brought many residents to the area. Some of the original buildings still exist in Horton.
In 1937 the plans for the first Rural Electric Association in Kansas were submitted and the first pole set. Because Horton was the first city to acquire an REA project, the Horton City Commission voted to adopt "The Electric City" as the city logo on May 1, 1995.
