Email Address: lauradarla@cox.net About this Exploration: Ivan Strickler started this dairy farm 61 years ago, and his sons, Steve and Doug, still have it going strong today. This nationally known dairy farm has a reputation for its genetics, breeding dairy cattle and producing milk on a huge scale. The milking barn is over a football field long, and can be viewed by driving north out of Iola on U.S. 169 to Oregon Road and then south on Kentucky. Although Ivan died in 2008, he is still internationally remembered for his contribution to the world of dairy farming, and you can find his Iola Free Public Library book, Wholly Cow, We Did It! that he wrote about his dairy farm at the or at the Allen County Historical Society Museum.
This is a drive by exploration. You'll see the huge bales of hay, the big grain storage bins, and many dairy cows, as well as the baby pens and calves. Eight full-time employees toil daily on the farm, milking 400 cows at 7 a.m., 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.
