Lindsborg's inventor brothers, John and Charles Erickson most dramatic contribution in telephony was the invention and development of the dial telephone while at the Strowger Co. located in Chicago. Their early workshop is located in Heritage Square. As Charles put it, "A sheltered nook in the Smoky Valley of Central Kansas today preserves the crumbling...monument to the model that substituted brains and fingers of iron for the human--the workshop that cradled the 'Machine Girl.' ....Therein many and sweet memories of happy days of long ago for two who began their work there." |
