About this Exploration: * A Fatal Shot: Early July 1889 a fellow by the name of Bert Horton, Fremont, accidentally shot and killed himself with a revolver. He was the deputy postmaster of the town and assisted in his father's store. He was up on the counter of the store reaching for goods on an upper shelf when some article fell on him, causing the revolver in his vest pocket to discharge. He realized it right away and within ten minutes was dead. The revolver was a small 22 caliber revolver, so small that the customers in the store thought it was a firecracker exploding. His tragic taking off cast a gloom over the whole community.
