About this Exploration: What started as a simple tribute to the Piqua area World War II men with four plaques around a flag pole has evolved to a new site in honor of our most courageous citizens. The Knights of Columbus Council 2289 erected the original memorial in 1950 in front of the Piqua School. In 2007 a small committee of local folks started planning a new Veterans Monument. The site was completed and dedicated July 4, 2009. The original flag pole was dismantled and moved to the site with the Veterans Monument that now has several hundred names of men and women who have served or are serving to preserve our freedom. There are folks from the Civil War to the current day heroes. Those have given their lives and those that have come home. The Veterans Monument is accessible seven days a week from dawn to dusk. It is located behind St. Martin of Tours Church east of the cemetery. |
