GET RUSSELL SPRINGSRussell Springs was named after Captain Avra P. Russell, The 2nd Kansas Cavalry. Today the population is 24, give or take, but back in 1865 when the town was founded, it was the site of the busy Eaton Stop on Butterfield's Overland Despatch (BOD) line on the Smoky Hill Trail which ran from Atchison, Kansas to Denver, Colorado. The town was the county seat for Logan County until 1963 when the county seat was moved (an not without some kickin' and fightin') to Oakley. |
