About this Exploration:
Why is Sainty’s Red Roof water tower painted green?
The St. Francis water tower located on
South
College holds 110,000 gallons of water and was built in 1926. In 2001, it needed some minor repairs so the city council took bids and hired a firm that whose business motto is "The Tank with the Red Roof." Well, low and behold, when they were done, the tower roof was red!
The local "Mean, Green Fighting Machine" sport enthusiasts were aghast! Red was the color of one of Sainty’s major sports rivals. Lead by the school superintendent, a phone campaign was started and soon the company with “The Tank with the Red Roof” came back to town and painted the tower roof green.
