About this Exploration: The Valley Falls City Park occupies a full city block in the center of town surrounded on all four sides by beautiful brick streets and lovely homes. The park was laid out in 1855 when the town fathers platted the city. The city was surveyed by Isaac Cody, father of Buffalo Bill Cody. The park features a large shelter house with picnic tables and restrooms. The shelter house can be reserved by calling the city office at 785.945.6612. A large playground area for children features a new jungle gym as well as the old spring rocking toys and a large slide. A redwood gazebo was built in 1991 by the Pride Committee. The gazebo was built on the site of the original bandstand. A tennis court is located within the park, as well as a war memorial and the millstones from the Legler Mill which was located on the Delaware River. |
