Tumbleweed Road off of N. U.S. 77
About this Exploration: Listed as an 8 Wonders of Kansas Geography finalist, this historical site on the Oregon Trail and the National Register of Historic Trails is nestled in the hills north of Blue Rapids. The spring was named in 1871 by a member of the ill-fated Donner-Reed Party.
Exploration of the site includes the Naomi Pike Falls and Alcove Spring as well as the swales leading to the Independence Crossing of the Big Blue River.
A recent grant from the National Historic Trails will allow for improved signage, parking, and future restrooms.
Directions: From Blue Rapids, go two miles north on U.S. 77, then at the sign go 6 miles west on a gravel road.
