About this Exploration: Mariadahl Lutheran, the oldest Swedish Lutheran house of worship west of the Missouri River, was made of native limestone and topped with a central steeple. The church was razed in 1961 to make way for the Tuttle Creek Dam.
Parts of the Mariadahl Lutheran Church were saved and the entire Swedish cemetery was relocated to nearby Olsburg. At Mariadahl Cemetery there are monuments to the accomplishments of this community and church and artifacts from the original cemetery. A four-foot bas-relief depicts the historic church and before it on the ground is the church's cornerstone, originally on the steeple.
