The Marshall County Historic Courthouse was built in 1891-92 after a mysterious fire destroyed an earlier courthouse on the same site. In 1979 it became the property of the Marshall County Historical Society and now houses a museum and genealogical research library.
The red brick building has an eight-sided tower and decorative terra-cotta panels bearing the word "JUSTICE". The interior, designed to be almost fireproof, has brick ceilings, tiled floors, and slate stairways. The impressive courtroom is furnished with the original oak judge's bench, jury box and spectators' seats. The museum has 21 rooms of county history displays.
